Why, he is a world famous record producer. Born in October 20th, 1925 in Manhattan, he grew up surrounded by music, and filled with musical talent and ideas. Having music all around him, it’s not a surprise that he would end up pursuing a career in the musical field. He oved engineering and touching up music for others. But surprisingly, he also took a break from his musical career, and went into the military. He worked on the historically famous Manhattan Project and helped create the atomic bomb. Tom Dowd, the music man became Tom Dowd, the science man. Of course, once World war 2 was over, he went back to what he loved most; music. Being able to live through the many different music decades of the 90’s, this record producer, got to work with many of the most famous artists in the world. He started working for atlantic records, working as a lowly young musical engineer who many thought not much of, but his talents were soon seen as a must have asset. He was a creative man, and liked to incorporate the newer techniques to modify and enhance his industry’s music. He created many ways to make music sound better and more unique. He revolutionized the way we hear music with his 8 track studio, he also helped pave the way for famous jazz composers such as Eddie Harris and Milt jackson. He also worked with early rock stars such as The Clovers and The Coasters. he worked with famous soul singes and artists such as Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin and Wilson Pickett. He worked with various other famous music artists such as Cream, Eric Clapton, Derek and the Dominos, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Rod Stewart. If you dont think working with these stars is crazy, just keep in mind that without his help and guidance, these singers never would have became who they were without his help.
